Comments for First draft

As per our discussions, I suggest you rework your concept:
  • More suitable for your target audience (8 - 15yr old). By this I mean less like an architectural blueprint and more like a fun, child-friendly, cartoon image
  • Your final design must also include an object that can be clicked on for every class member's topic
  • Have a think about how your final flash work will appear (hand drawn, vector or bitmap artwork). I would like your concept to closely resemble your final output to be used in your presentation

THE IPad Q&A's

1. In your opinion how important is it for mobile applications and devices to both look good and function properly? Comment on both the attractiveness of the software and the hardware.

A.   To be honest, I’m kind of like you were 12 months ago with the whole IPAD thing. I have researched it till my eyes hurt. From what I’ve researched about it(as not had the opportunity to use one) if its anything like the IPhone then I think it could really work. I don’t know about carrying around an iPhone as big as an A4 piece of paper though. I see where their going with the whole thing and they have already made improvements over the first release of the ipad.

 2. Who designed the iPad? Was it an individual or team? In your opinion, do people use this device because it looks good or because it functions well? Or does it do both?
A.  The 2 main people behind the IPad were PopSci’s Sam Syed (Creative Director) and Mike Haney (Editor). Along with a whole team of hundreds working on each aspect of the features and apps

Like : The conversion of the print edition for the app took approximately 2 weeks.  I think they use it because it’s the latest FAD and tomorrow there will be something totally new. This may even out doo the IPad.

3.How has the iPad changed the way some businesses function? Can you find examples of where businesses have implemented the iPad into their day-to-day activities?

 A.   One way that the IPad has improved the way someone can do a pitch or deliver a speech to a meeting. you can have graphs and charts done. Like MS publisher but it’s there in your hand and you don’t have to have your laptop connected to a projector and a blank white screen.
4.Overall, what other major flaws of this type of technology? Can you think of anyways in the future that this hardware will be improved to the point where it will compete with desktop and laptop computers?

A.   Well its already wireless so you can do most things with it. Design wise I remember the first ad for IPad and these people were just throwing in into their bags like it was a toy, then I thought how good can that screen be and how tough is it. Like could you hit it with a hammer and it nor break if so id  have one… its also like one massive hard drive and iv have portable ones of them that have done it in because of the whole (stuff it in your bag thing)..

5.How do you think the iPad could help your day-to-day work flow? Are the answers straightforward? Is it more a case of combining this technology with others that already exist?

A.   Right now I don’t think It could. Not enough people have them.
B.   Its just another distraction more than anything
C.   I wouldn’t be able to use most of the features of the IPad I’m my life at this time . that’s not to say that in the next 5 years I won’t think it’s the best thing since sliced bread either.

6.Consider the following–has the iPad shaped the way we do business? Or has business and technology shaped the way Apple developed the iPad?

A.   I think business has shaped the way Apple developed it. Its like Apple and Microsoft are and always have been on this ..’’I need to bring it out first thing’’ .

7.Is the iPad and tablets in general a passing fad? Or do you think this type of technology is here to stay long-term?

A.   Well in my last statement I called it a fad but I think its also a good start for what the future holds for technology and design. I just don’t think it’s 100% there yet.

8.Conduct a discussion with the whole class and determine based on the general consensus the pros and cons of tablet-based technology.

A. will do
9.Many people say that the iPad is an unnecessary piece of hardware caught in limbo between a laptop and mobile phone. Do you think this consensus is accurate. Do you think that your answer could be different in five years time?

A.   For now I'm more for the cons over the pros but yeah in 5 years I'm sure id change my way of thing towards the IPad or other Better designed product from another company.

A good research site for George holt's class
